January 2010
The 2nd Annual Soup Bowls for Hunger Fundraiser sponsored by the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society Ceramics Guild and Teen Pottery Class in collaboration with Lexington’s newest restaurant nourish was held throughout December.
The proceeds of this unique sale go to the Lexington Interfaith Food Pantry. This year 113 bowls, created by the Ceramics Guild and teen artisans, at $15.00 each and in some cases soup was purchased at $5.00 per bowl by nourish patrons making the total donation $1765.00. Carolyn Wortman, Coordinator of the Food Pantry was presented with the checks by Jean Hart, Director of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society and Karen Masterson, owner of nourish.
Carolyn remarked “the donation is very much appreciated by the Pantry as it provides the necessary funds to purchase guarenteed staples such as bread, cereal, beans, prepackaged meals and fresh fruit.
”The event coincides with the holiday season thus offering a one-of-kind gift item and much need monetary support for the valuable service provided by the Food Pantry.
In addition, this year, the Pantry also received a check for $262.50 which was raised by the Society at the Annual Artisans Market. Artists from our 9 Guilds donated work as part of “Crafts for Charity,” an idea created by Dr. Daniel Palant of Lexington to support local charities.
